The first occupation described is the judge or justice.  The distinction between the two titles is that a trial  supervises the trial of a case, determining the applicable rules of law and directing courtroom activities.  Justices are judges at the  level, where a trial (with testifying witnesses and the introduction of evidence) does not occur, but where trials are reviewed for error.  Justices are essentially concerned with issues of ; issues of  are normally resolved at the trial court level.
